AI is everywhere and the government is trying to figure out how to control it. We are living in a sci-fi movie and all I'm trying to do is process it all. AI is very powerful (duh), it can do amazing things but also can cause an insane amount of harm especially if we are not careful. Look at all the deepfakes and videos that re being created, used like warfare and that's exactly why the government is stepping in, trying to set boundaries before it gets even more out of hand. I woke up and watch a video of the president speaking influent Arabic making a joke only the natives culturally understood. My mother laughing not knowing the video was a fake, I had to explain to my immigrant mother that the president did not just make a joke only people from back home could understand, especially in fluent Arabic. A person who uses computers and is understanding AI and its capabilities wouldn't get tricked in this level but we can still be fooled easily. The goal should be to make AI safer and ethical, they't talking about things like making sure big companies are more transparent about how AI works like Facebook and it's mysterious algorithms, we need to hold people accountable especially if AI is being used to do harmful things. From what Ive read I'm now seeing government banning in certain areas like surveillance tech (used to invade peoples privacy) and ethical panels like committees (in certain countries) figuring out what's okay and what's not okay. There are steps being taken but the advancement makes it feel like a losing race. You have two sides racing, AI becoming more and more stronger and AI management. The question is how do you manage something that is growing stronger and stronger everyday. As someone who is familiar with AI, I can't really imagine life without it anymore but I also see how dangerous it can be if left alone and unchecked. Just like fire, it's useful but can burn you. Learning more and more about how AI rules are created and what's established makes me realize how unprepared we are. I hope that people are starting to take a more serious look into AI's policies so that at the end of the day we live in a world were AI helps us, not controls us.
Welcome to my blog, where I'll be yapping about all things tech! This is the spot where I'll share my thoughts about how the world is being consumed by technology: Past and Present!
