Cyber Crime is Real!

As a student who moved into. a first world country I can see how technology is engulfed in our everyday lives. We live in an environment that puts tech first, I bring that up because we as a society do not understand how serious cybercrime can truly affect us. Cybercrime is something that we see in films but genuinely it's a lot closer to us than we understand. We we factor in ransomware, phishing, and Dos attacks, we can see that it effects not just me but everyone especially YOU who's reading this. Ransomeware can be beyond terrifying. When I think about it I genuinely feel like it's straight from a horror film. I remember a few years ago that my brother's computer was hit. When he looked into an email he opened the attachment and all of his files became locked. I remember reading the message demanding for money and if they didn't pay then photos, important files, school work would all be lost. Seeing that became a wake up call for me to never open up links without looking the person in the eye that sent it to me. When it comes to phishing, I myself have almost fallen victim many times to be honest. I remember looking at my bank one time and seeing that there was an issue with one of my accounts. Before I clicked it I also remembered to double check the sender and realized it was one of the best fakes I've ever seen. If I had given them my information I truly believe my account would have been done. When looking at a DoS attack I myself haven't gone through that luckily but multiple times before hopping onto my PlayStation before Christmas was there servers hit for hours because of it. It seemed to happen around the same time every year and I just told myself to not play during that time every year and all would be well. Cybercrime is very real and everywhere, we dodge it everyday and the more comfortable we become the easier it is to fall for a trap. This class especially made me realize how easy it is to fall for these things. Stay safe out there!
